HSSE Training: Basic Occupational First Aid, CPR and AED

Last 8th July 2023, PTIS HSSE Department has conducted Basic Occupational First Aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training which are essential skills for individuals working in various occupations and industries. The objective of this training is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, providing immediate care and potentially saving lives.

Here are some key aspects of each component during the training:
1. Basic Occupational First Aid:
  1. Recognition and assessment of common workplace injuries and illnesses.
  2. Basic wound care, such as cleaning, dressing, and bandaging wounds.
  3. Treatment for burns, fractures, sprains, and strains.
  4. Management of medical emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, seizures, and allergic reactions.
  5. Techniques for handling emergencies in specific workplace environments.
2. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation):
  1. CPR is a life-saving technique used when someone’s breathing, or heartbeat has stopped.
  2. Techniques for providing chest compressions to restore blood circulation.
  3. Rescue breathing methods to supply oxygen to the lungs.
  4. The importance of early CPR initiation and the role it plays in increasing survival rates.
3. AED (Automated External Defibrillator):
  1. Training on how to use an AED, a portable device that delivers an electric shock to the heart in cases of cardiac arrest.
  2. Proper placement of the AED pads on the victim’s chest.
  3. Understanding the prompts and instructions provided by the AED during its operation.
  4. Knowledge of safety precautions while using an AED.
The objectives of this training are primarily focused on human safety and well-being in the workplace. By providing participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond to emergencies, the training aims to:
  1. Improve response time: Prompt action during emergencies is crucial for increasing the chances of a positive outcome. Training participants to recognize and assess emergencies enables them to respond quickly and efficiently.
  2. Minimize injury severity: Basic first aid techniques taught in the training can help stabilize an injured person before professional medical help arrives, reducing the risk of further injury or complications.
  3. Save lives: CPR and AED training empowers participants to perform life-saving interventions, such as chest compressions and defibrillation, to restore normal heart rhythm and circulation in cardiac arrest situations.
  4. Promote workplace safety culture: By investing in first aid and emergency response training, organizations prioritize the safety and well-being of their employees. This fosters a culture of preparedness, where individuals are more aware of potential hazards and are ready to respond effectively.
Overall, the objective of Basic Occupational First Aid, CPR, and AED training is to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond to workplace emergencies promptly, appropriately, and confidently hence ultimately ensuring the well-being and safety of the PTIS employees.
